Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal (Mev Med Sci) is a peer-reviewed and open-access journal. The journal aims to publish articles in the field of medical science quickly and regularly. Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal publishes editorial articles that contribute to medical science and academic studies, original experimental and clinical research articles, medical history research, compilations, case reports, letters to the editor, and articles on current medical issues.

This journal prioritizes publishing scientific studies conducted by students of the Faculty of Medicine, specialist students (research assistants, assistant doctors), and academicians.

It is published in three issues every year in April, August, September, and December. The publication languages are Turkish and English. Free access to full-text articles can be obtained from www. Mevlanamedsci.org.

Publication Policy

The publication policy and all processes of the journal follow the rules of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), World Association of Medical Editors (WAME), Council of Science Editors (CSE), European Association of Science Editors (EASE), Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and National Information Standards Organization (NISO). The editorial and publication processes of Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal are carried out by the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (doaj.org/bestpractice). The Editorial Board will act by COPE rules against allegations and suspicions of plagiarism, citation manipulation, and data fraud regarding studies submitted to our journal.

Articles must not have been published anywhere before and must not have been sent to another journal for publication (except for oral presentations and poster presentations published in connection with scientific meetings, provided that they are not published in full text, with the condition of notification). The plagiarism program (iThendicate) is used in the Mevlana  Medical Sciences Journal. Articles with similarities exceeding the academic citation limit and articles that have not been prepared by the publication rules will not be evaluated.

Ethics committee approval is required for the compliance of research protocols of experimental, clinical, and drug studies and case reports with international agreements (World Medical Association Declaration of Helsinki “Ethical Principles for Medical Research Involving Human Subjects,” amended in October 2013, www.wma.net) and documentation of this approval will constitute the basis for the publication of the articles. Patient consent, the name of the ethics committee, and ethics committee approval information must also be stated in the Materials and Methods section of the article.

All responsibilities (ethical, scientific, legal, etc.) of the articles published in the journal belong to the authors. The Editorial Board has the discretion to decide whether or not to review articles that are not prepared by the writing rules. All publishing rights of articles accepted for publication belong to the journal. This right is determined by a specially prepared publishing rights transfer form with the signatures of all authors. A Copyright Transfer Form signed by the responsible author must be sent to the journal through the article acceptance system. A separate form must be submitted for each article. Articles sent without a Copyright Transfer Form will not be accepted. Authors must confirm that they will not give their works to another journal, will not publish the original or in another language, or will not allow a third party to use the article without the written permission of Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal. In the event of rejection of the article, all copyrights are deemed to have been returned to the authors.

It must be declared that there is no financial conflict of interest at any stage of the study, including data collection, experimental phase, writing, and language editing. Commercial sponsorship, if any, must be declared in the study. Mevlana Journal of Medical Sciences requests and encourages authors and individuals involved in the evaluation process of submitted articles to declare any current or potential conflicts of interest, including financial, institutional, and other relationships that could lead to a potential conflict of interest or bias.

It is the responsibility of authors to carefully maintain patient anonymity. If a patient can be identified from a photograph or other photographs or any accompanying text, these should be covered. Identifiable images should be anonymized. In cases where patient identification is available, a patient consent form should be obtained and added to the system. In cases where the patient is not identified in any way, consent is not required. In articles related to experimental research involving humans; a statement indicating that written, informed consent was obtained should be included following a detailed description of the procedures that patients and volunteers may undergo.

The Editorial Board of the journal processes objection and complaint cases within the scope of COPE guidelines. Authors can directly contact the Editor-in-Chief or the Editorial Board for objections and complaints. When necessary, a neutral representative is appointed for issues that the Editorial Board cannot resolve on its own. The Editor-in-Chief will make the final decision in the decision-making process for objections and complaints. The publisher and editor are always ready to publish corrections, explanations, retractions, and apologies when necessary.

Authorship

Everyone listed as an author in the studies submitted to Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal must meet the authorship requirements recommended by the ICMJE (www.icmje.org). The ICMJE recommends that authors meet the following 4 conditions:

1. Make a significant contribution to the concept/design of the study; or to the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data for the study;

2-Prepared the draft of the article or made critical reviews of important intellectual content;

3- To have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript before publication;

4- To agree to be accountable for all aspects of the work to ensure that questions regarding the validity and accuracy of any part of the work have been appropriately investigated and resolved.

Each person listed as an author must meet the four conditions of authorship, and each person who meets these four conditions must be identified as an author. All persons designated as authors must qualify for authorship, and all who qualify must be listed. Individuals who do not meet all four criteria should be acknowledged on the title page of the article. Acquisition of funding, collection of data, or general supervision of the research group do not, in themselves, justify authorship. One or more authors must assume responsibility for the integrity of the work as a whole, from inception to the published article.

In multicenter studies, authorship is attributed to a group. All members of the group named as authors must fully meet the above criteria for authorship. Group members who do not meet these criteria should be listed in their approvals along with their approvals. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged.

All statements and opinions made in articles published in Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal reflect the views of the author(s). All responsibility for advertisements belongs to the advertisers.

Authors who submit articles to the journal are deemed to have read and accepted these statements.

All content is the responsibility of the authors. All financial and legal responsibilities related to the copyrights of the presented tables, figures, and other visual materials, which are protected by national and international laws, belong to the authors. Authors are responsible for any legal action against the journal regarding their articles.

To clarify scientific contributions and responsibilities and conflict of interest (COI) issues related to the article, all sections of the Author Contribution Form must be completed by the relevant author, and the ICMJE Declaration Form for Potential Conflicts of Interest must be completed online by all authors. Both forms must be included in the article at the time of original submission.

Author names will be published as listed in the Copyright Transfer Form. In order to protect all parties involved, there will be no changes in membership or name changes at a later date.

Correction and Retraction Requests

Articles published by Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal are the final version. Therefore, correction requests after publication are evaluated by the Editorial Board according to COPE guidelines.

Author names, affiliations, article titles, abstracts, keywords, incorrect information, and spelling errors in digital object identifiers (DOI) can be corrected with an “erratum”.

Retraction requests are also subject to the approval of the Editorial Board.

Article Evaluation Process

The aim is to evaluate and publish articles sent to the journal quickly. All articles are subject to a double-blind peer review process. Articles will be reviewed by two impartial reviewers for content, originality, importance in the field, appropriateness of statistical analysis, and conclusions. In case of discrepancies between the reviewers, the article can be sent to a third or fourth reviewer. The final decision regarding the acceptance of submitted articles belongs to the Editor-in-Chief.

Comments and evaluations reported by the referees and evaluated as useful for the authors are sent to the authors. Instructions, objections, and requests made by the referees must be strictly followed. In the revised version of the article, the authors must clearly and explicitly state every step taken by the referees' requests. The author's explanatory notes must be listed in numbered order according to the referees' evaluation. In addition, the necessary changes must be made in the article indicated (by coloring), and the forms containing the revised article and the responses given to the referees' suggestions must be meticulously uploaded from www.mevlanamedsci.org.

Submission of Articles

Authors must upload the Publication Rights Transfer Form to the system. All correspondence will be sent to the responsible author. An e-mail address must be provided for all other correspondence of the relevant responsible author. Authors are informed that their articles have been received with the number provided. The notified article number must be used in all correspondence.

It is hereby declared to the authors that; as a result of the initial evaluation of the editorial office, the article may be returned due to the content of the article for the benefit of the reader. This rapid rejection process allows the author to publish his/her article elsewhere.

Submitting an article to Mevlana Medical Sciences Journal means that all authors have read and accepted the journal's publication policies and publication ethics. Article submission and all other related procedures will be  online at www.mevlanamedsci.org.
